Kultura Aberdeen

The guest experience and the tools behind service.

I took sole ownership of the technical consultancy, from shaping the idea and strategy to branding, UI/UX, SEO, full-stack development and launch. The result connects Kultura’s guest website with bookings, payments, vouchers and restaurant operations.

The product

Connect discovering the restaurant with running the service.

Guests need to explore the menu, find a table, arrange private dining or buy a gift. Staff need to manage bookings, seat guests, take orders and keep track of the service. I developed the public website and operational workflows around those different tasks.

I owned the work across the business model, product direction, branding and technical delivery. I created the website’s visual design and responsive layouts, then adapted my earlier restaurant software into a dedicated platform for Kultura. I handled the application logic, database, integrations, deployment and support after launch.

The product work included translating service hours, booking cutoffs, deposit rules, voucher policies and private-dining capacity into clear interfaces and enforceable application rules. Changes to the restaurant’s requirements shaped both the guest experience and the tools available to staff.

Product & UI/UX decisions

Design around
the task at hand.

  1. 01

Give each guest a clear route

Food photography and the restaurant’s visual character lead the introduction. Menus, reservations, private dining and gift vouchers have distinct routes, so visitors can move directly to the task that brought them to the site.

  2. 02

Make the business rules part of the experience

Booking availability follows service times and capacity rules. Guest-facing cutoffs and deposit information explain what happens next, while server-side validation enforces the same rules. Staff retain separate tools for manual bookings and service adjustments.

  3. 03

Give staff tools that follow the service

I developed seating and table-management workflows alongside order taking, kitchen and bar displays. Editable floor plans cover the main restaurant and private-dining areas, with administration kept separate from the front-of-house flow.

Engineering & ongoing delivery

Carry the work through launch and improvement.

I continued working on Kultura after launch, implementing changes to booking policies, menus, voucher rules and staff workflows. This included the user-facing copy, validation and operational tools needed to keep each change consistent across the product.

Voucher fulfilment is one example of that deeper work. I traced payment, activation and email-delivery states, added reconciliation for missed payment events and made repeated activation attempts safe. A database-backed regression test checks that repeated attempts queue one recipient email rather than duplicates.

I remained responsible across strategy, branding, design, SEO, engineering and production support. The public website is the visible entry point to that wider body of work.
